Training your core is one of the most crucial yet misunderstood areas of fitness.
Many people think their “abs” are the one-dimensional muscles on the front of their belly’s BUT your true core muscles include so much more than that. Strengthening your core requires activating ALL the core muscles, including: abdominal muscles (transverse abdominis, rectus abdominis, external & internal oblique muscles), back muscles (erector spinae), muscles surrounding the pelvis (pelvic floor muscles) & the diaphragm.
This is why planks are an AWESOME & actually EFFECTIVE way to train, strengthen & stabilize ALL muscles of the core. Here are 7 of my favorite & go to plank variations that I'd recommend to productively train core with links to video demo's:
