If you're anything like me - you LOVE sweets. & that's OKAY! I think having a sweet tooth has gotten a bad rap because it's automatically associated with overindulging, too much sugar, highly processed food items or fighting against the urge to eat "bad".

I'm here to tell you that you don't have to feel shame for having a sweet tooth & having one DOES NOT have to be an excuse to overindulge on highly processed, sugary items that make you feel guilty or make your body feel sick!!!

Satisfying your sweet tooth is ESSENTIAL for having sustainable healthy nutrition & eating habits. When you refuse your sweet tooth, you are strengthening the urge to overindulge what you've claimed you "can't have" because it's "bad".

RESTRICTION leads to BINGE EATING - it's simple, we want what we can't have.

Instead, welcoming sweets decreases the need to overeat them because they are just apart of your normal life & not off limits. When you eat what you enjoy & love, you're satisfied & not looking for more because you're perfectly content with what you've already had. In addition, eliminating the "good food / bad food" mindset helps to nurture a healthy relationship to all foods, dissipating shame & guilt around it, & mitigating the need to overindulge.

Now, sweets don't have to be highly processed cakes, cookies, & ice cream, SURPRISE. You can make your own sweet treats at home that are just as yummy & satisfying for your sweet tooth without sky rocketing your blood sugar & consuming a bunch of refined white sugars & flours!

Here is the PERFECT recipe for that -

Healthy 7-Ingredient, Flourless Brownies !!!

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe bananas

  • 1/2 cup creamy almond butter (I love Santa Cruz brand found at Whole Foods)

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/3 cup vegan chocolate chips (I love the Enjoy Life brand)

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 395 degrees

  2. In a large bowl, mash up bananas until smooth

  3. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl (almond butter, coconut sugar, vanilla, cocoas powder, & baking soda) & mix until smooth

  4. Add the batter to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper & spread until the mix is evenly distributed throughout the pan

  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top

  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes

  7. ENJOY WITHOUT GUILT!

I love to eat a brownie as a post-dinner or lunch treat!

Pro tip: warm up in the microwave for 15-20 seconds before eating :)

XO,

Be Well,

Giulia
